Orbot Proxy App
By adding Tor support on Android, Facebook is now giving users an easier way to encrypt their Facebook use.
What is Tor?
Tor is a system that helps you defend against traffic analysis,
a form of network surveillance that
threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business
activities, relationships and state security.
Tor is used by criminals too to dodge law enforcement.
The company has been allowing users to encrypt their Facebook use by creating a Tor onion address (at https://www.facebookcorewwwi.onion/) for a while, and now after seeing the remarkable growth of their community that used this feature, Orbot Proxy App is born.
"We commonly receive requests for additional platform support beyond the
browser, and thanks to a project initiated by a summer intern at
Facebook and subsequently picked up by our Protect and Care team in
London, we are now offering experimental support for using Facebook over
Tor via the Orbot proxy app for Android devices." said the company on a note.
Users who wants to use this App will need first to download via Google Play or the Orbot F-Droid repository. After installing it they will have to change the Facebook "App Settings" to enable the feature using a new preference switch.
